The area immediately surrounding the amphitheatre was once made up of open fields and had been a part of a significant dairy farm in the past. At one point in time, the seventy-two acres that are now occupied by the amphitheater served as a fully built business park complete with terraced lots and amenities. After a period of time during which the land in question had been left undeveloped, Universal Concerts approached the city of Chula Vista with the intention of constructing an amphitheater there and was successful in doing so. For the purpose of constructing the amphitheater, the industrial park had to be leveled and destroyed. In the late 1990s, a development plan was drafted up for the region, and it called for the construction of a concert venue as well as a water park. While White Water Canyon, which is now known as Sesame Place San Diego, initially opened its doors in 1997, the Coors Amphitheatre became the first venue of its sort in San Diego County on July 21, 1998. The English pop girl group Spice Girls performed at the arena for the first time on August 21, 1998, and the show was completely sold out. Learn About this website
